Thank you Peek

Some time ago I read about a button that Peak had discovered, link to post here (Swedish).

Yesterday on my way home from work I couldn’t find any unique turfers close by so I decided to try Peaks button. After some searching I found it, clicked it, and suddenly my road were highlighted!

After a few zones Spix woke up and started accusing me for attacking him? Talk about being paranoid. I was just following the way the application showed me.

The road was a bit longer than my usual but I think I will try it again sometime.

Turf Karlstad

This summer we started the association Turf Karlstad. The association is to organize events and meetups for all the turfers in the world with focus on Värmland. We are planning to organize a bigger event in the beginning of next year but information about that will be coming later.

Check out our new website that is still under progress: http://turfkarlstad.se/

For now we are inviting you to a closed event in Karlstad the 9th of november 2014, the event will start 14:00 and the time for the event is 2 hours. Meeting place is next to the parking lot outside of KMTI (Link), changing rooms, showers and lockers are available. See more information on the webpage (Swedish, if you´re interested in an translation, please leave a comment).

Unique turfers

Some time ago, in my old blog, I wrote about a different part of the game that the turfer Westeras showed me. Until then I had not given it that much attention to it so my stats was not that great. So I began to focus on extinguish some of the zeros in the TvT statistics on warded and claiming unique turfers whenever I had the chance. Before the summer my statics on warded was as below:

Unique turfers 2014-06-23

Unique turfers 2014-06-23

Since then I have continued my journey claiming unique turfers that have showed up in Karlstad and taken zones from as many turfers as possible during my trips to events. Today my stats have improved with around 200 turfers and the difference between losses and takes looks much better than before.

Still far from the top lists on warded but indeed improvements, and the hunt continues.

Well known turfers visiting

During this week we had two famous turfers visiting Karlstad.

At wednesday evening Fredrick, the first bonanza winner and famous for his youtube channel paid a visit on his hunt for the Swedish explorer. He went by car taking some of our more distant zones and then took a walk in our central parts.

His visit also gave me a chance to erase a long lasting zero in my TvT statics.

Then, yesterday, KeepOnWalking also turned up. I met her when she was one of the event organizers during this years Bonanza in Stockholm so when she now was visiting Karlstad I took a chance to say hello and talk turf memories. She also brought some of the mobile cases for protection from water that was handed out during the Bonanza. I had  showed my case for some of the turfers in Karlstad and they wanted their own.

When she first arrived Karlstads turfers were playing nice and gave her some space but during the afternoon she was surrounded and wasn’t allowed to keep her zones for long.

Thank you both for your visit and welcome back!

Some tougher zones

Lately in Karlstad we have got some zones of the tougher kind, here is my story about two of them. Most of our zones are placed on the bike lanes so it is nice with some variation.

KarlsMulleOne

The first one KarlsMulleOne we received in the end of the last round. It is placed in the forestarea called Sörmon, an area without bike lanes or walking paths. The only road to the area is the highway so that´s the way I took. I went there pretty late and the batteries in my lights were running low so I took off from the highway as soon as possible. When I got off the road I went into an old forestroad that had seen better days (picture to the left below). But further down the road I found a paved road that later on passed to a more muddy road (middle picture below) and finally there was a smaller forest trail (right picture).

About 100 meters down the forest trail I had run out off trails and had to leave the bike, luckily I had my running shoes in my backpack and a headlight.

Then the journey into the dark forest begun. On the map it didn’t look very far but the terrain was hard and it took about 30 minutes to reach the zone from were I had to leave my bike. I was happy for the headlight.

On the way back I was starting to get even darker and I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to find my bike. I had a screenshot on the map from where I left it so I went to that area and once again the headlight was very helpful and lighted up the reflexes on the bike.

BergviksUdde

An other zone, that was created more recently, is called BergviksUdde. This is a zone that I have suggested myself for about a year ago and is not as much off-road as KarlsMulleOne but still not a place you visit everyday. As usual I still brought my bike to the zone (I don’t own a car so how else is I suppose to get there?) but this zone was certainly not a bikezone either. At the beginning there was a bigger road of gravel but it soon passed to a footbridge that was kind of hard to cycle on. On my way out it went fine and when I got pass it there was a forest trail that I followed until I reached some cliffs that I was unable to climb on the bike, luckily it was just around 50 meters left.

On the way back I wasn’t as lucky as before with the footbridge and got stuck between the boards.

Turf Preacher
